Bhrikuti Mandap at Pradarshani Marg is the venue for the upcoming 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. The venue will host the Congress' General Convention inauguration, closed session, and polls.
For four days, about 5,000 Congress delegates will elect a new leadership through discussions and debates. Within the same place, aspirants of various office bearers and members have been opening liaison offices to attract representatives.
Arrangements are being made for 200 people to cast their votes simultaneously in the General Convention. Nepali Congress Kathmandu Secretary Govinda Pudasaini informed that the Congress is going to set up 200 booths in the National Assembly. More than 4,500 delegates attending the convention have to cast their ballots. Pudasaini said that it would take at least an hour to cast one's vote. The Congress General Convention is scheduled to be inaugurated on December 10 and voting is scheduled to take place on December 22.
The Congress is preparing for the inauguration of the General Convention by putting more than 300 people on the stage. Congress Kathmandu Secretary Pudasaini, who has been given the responsibility of managing the stage, said that a stage is being built for 300 seated people and 40 people to dance. He informed that the construction work of the stage will be completed by this evening. The stage is designed to accommodate foreign guests, leaders, and artists in three steps.
According to Secretary Pudasaini, a grand platform 80 feet long and 40 feet wide has been constructed. More than 100 workers have been working for three days just to build the platform. A tower of Nepal Telecom has been set up at the convention venue for the convenience of the internet. Media centers, help desks, and various holding centers have also been set up.
Hotels have been booked at three places in the capital, namely Thamel, Sundhara, and Gaushala. So far, 86 hotels have been booked for 3,800 delegates, said Surendra Pandey, coordinator of the accommodation and food committee and Congress central member. The hotel has been booked to accommodate 4,300 delegates.
