The meeting of the Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress is being held today. The meeting is being held since 3 pm through virtual media, according to the party's central office.

General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma informed that the meeting will discuss the formation of the party's central working committee, local-level election, and other issues.

The meeting of the current Central Committee elected from the 14th General Convention held last November has been held twice before and the third meeting is going to be held through the virtual medium due to the increasing COVID-19 cases.

In the 14th general convention of the party, 134 office bearers and members were elected and 33 members were nominated by the central chairman. Out of them, Prime Minister and Central Chairman of the party Sher Bahadur Deuba has nominated 13 members as per the constitution.

According to Article 23 of the Congress Constitution, the Central Working Committee has a chairperson, deputy chairperson, general secretary, treasurer, and joint general secretary. Likewise, the chairperson will make a proposal from among the members of the working committee in the meeting of the 31-member working committee keeping in view the principle of inclusion.

There is a provision in the legislature that the proposal will be approved by the majority of the working committee. The Leader of the Parliamentary Party and the Central Spokesperson will be the ex-officio members of the Central Performance Committee. The Central Working Committee will meet at least once a month.

At present, the Congress has 13 office bearers including the president, deputy president, general secretary, and joint general secretary, while treasurer and spokesperson are yet to be nominated. As Deuba is the leader of the Congress parliamentary party, the Central Performance Committee will have 46 members.
