Nepal-India Joint Secretary level meeting is being held in Kathmandu today. The joint secretary level meeting will be held at the Hyatt Hotel at 3 pm.
After the joint secretary-level meeting, a meeting of the secretary-level board of directors will be held on Thursday. On behalf of Nepal, the meeting of the Board of Directors will be chaired by the Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Devendra Karki and the meeting of the Joint Secretary level Joint Task Force will be chaired by Joint Secretary Chiranjivi Chataut.
Officials said that an attempt would be made to resolve the issues that could not be decided by the meeting of the joint secretary-level working group in the directing committee.
According to Energy Ministry Secretary Karki, Nepal-India electricity trade, infrastructure construction, and other issues will be discussed in the energy meeting between the two countries. Nepal is preparing to raise issues ranging from building infrastructure for exchanging electricity between the two countries to resolving policy issues.
Nepal has also given priority to the issue of electricity export. "Efforts will be made to establish access to the open market before the rainy season as more electricity can be generated and wasted," said an energy ministry official who attended the meeting.
There is a provision for the secretary-level joint board of directors to meet every 6 months. Before that, a meeting was held in Bangalore, India in 2019. Last year, the meeting was virtually done due to the pandemic.
