The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives on Wednesday took stock of the situation of Bir and Patan hospitals. The hospitals have been flooded with Covid-19 patients.
The parliamentary team led by the Committee chairperson Shashi Shrestha inquired with the chief of the hospitals about the pressure of COVID-19 patients, facilities given by the hospitals, and problems and challenges like lack of workforce the hospitals are facing to deal with the virus, said the Committee's secretary Babita Mishra.
On the occasion, executive director of Bir Hospital Dr Shanta Sapkota and executive director of Patan Hospital Dr Rabi Shakya demanded human resources including doctors and nurses to better deal with the infected people.
Bir Hospital and Patan Hospital have managed 107 and 250 beds for Covid-19 respectively.
Bir Hospital has been producing 150 oxygen cylinders a day while the oxygen plant at Patan Hospital is dysfunctional.
On the occasion, the parliamentary team directed the hospital management to do its best in treating Covid-19 patients. It also asked the management to provide written suggestions as the parliament would take initiatives to resolve problems facing the hospitals, said Mishra.
