The COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) has recommended the government to allow the concerned district authorities to impose a lockdown if the number of people being infected with the coronavirus crosses 500. The authority to impose a lockdown will be given to the chief district officer in coordination with the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre.
The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 3,032 new cases of coronavirus infection in the country. Additionally, 90 persons have tested positive for the virus in the Antigen test. Kathmandu district alone reported 1,132 cases today.
Meanwhile, the chief district officers of Kathmandu valley have also held consultations regarding imposing a lockdown. Citing that it is not feasible to look into each district individually the CDOs are preparing to issue a joint order. Last year too, all three district administrations of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur had imposed the lockdown in coordination with each other.
It has been reported that the chief district officers of all three districts within Kathmandu valley will sit for a meeting and take a joint decision regarding whether or not to impose a lockdown after consultations with the COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre. The number of cases of people being infected with coronavirus has been rising steadily in Kathmandu valley.
Earlier today, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali had stated that the government would not impose lockdown for now. However, he said that there is a possibility of lockdowns in pocket areas hit hard by the second wave of the pandemic.
Likewise, the CCMC issued a press statement to apprise of its decision to allow only virtual classes in schools across the country. The committee has further made a recommendation to the government to put off prescheduled examinations at all levels in schools and colleges in order to prevent the spreading of the pandemic.
