The Supreme Court has sought a written response with the reason for demolishing the archaeologically important house of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota from the concerned authorities.
A single bench of Justice Tej Bahadur KC through the Office of Attorney General has asked the concerned authorities including the Nepal Academy to do so within 15 days. The ruling was in response to a writ petition filed by advocate Sanjaya Adhikari seeking a stay order to stop the destruction of the house of the great poet.
The Academy is at work to build a new house by dismantling the historic house of Devkota in Maitedivi, Kathmandu.
Litterateurs and conservation experts had been demanding conservation of the old and archaeologically important house of Devkota.
