Scuffle at Correction Centre: 22 injured; 27 inmates fled

At least 22 inmates sustained injuries following a clash that occurred on Monday between the minor inmates and police personnel at Sanothimi-based Child Correction Centre in Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur.
Police opened three rounds of fire leaving two minor inmates injured.
Likewise, four inmates, 10 personnel of Nepal Police and eight Armed Police Force Nepal personnel were injured in the clash, Superintendent of Police of Bhaktapur Prajit KC said.
Police Inspector Sanjib Oli, who sustained injuries after an attack from inmates, is receiving treatment at Madhyapur Hospital.
Of the four inmates, the condition of two is critical and are receiving treatment at Bir Hospital Trauma Centre.
The injured ones are being treated at Nagarik Community Hospital, Madhyapur Hospital, Bir Hospital and other hospitals, Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur Khagendra Prasad Rijal said.
There were altogether 299 minor inmates including 43 girls and 256 girls.
Earlier on Monday, 221 inmates had fled by breaking the main gate of the correction centre.
Superintendent of Police KC shared that 194 among the absconding inmates have been taken under control.
SP KC claimed that 27 other inmates would be taken under control by this night.
The correction centre at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2 in Santothimi was vandalized on Sunday after mystery over the death of a 21-year-old youth who was put behind the bar on charge of rape case.
The relatives of Kamal Basnet, 21, of Manthali in Ramechhap had vandalized the correction centre after Bonnet's mysterious death was reported on Sunday morning.
The area remained tense the whole day on Monday too.
After Basnet's death, the minor inmates and relatives of the deceased protested demanding a fair probe, action to the culprits and compensation to the deceased's family.
However, the police have stated that Basnet, who fainted on Sunday, died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Bhaktapur.
Likewise, a meeting of the district security committee held on Sunday had formed a probe committee led by Assistant Chief District Officer Dorendra Prasad Niraula to thoroughly investigate the issue.
