With the support of UNESCO, The Press Council Nepal organised a day-long workshop on 'role of organisations in building gender sensitive media' .
On the occasion, Press Council Nepal Chair Bal Krishna Basnet said the Council was always effortful to build gender sensitive media. He shared that the Council tried to make media gender-friendly by formulating and implementing guidelines.
Similarly, President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Bipul Pokhrel, opined that we all should be aware that gender-related issues are common issues of all- not the mere concern of women. He mentioned that the FNJ had been taking initiatives to implement women guidelines and create women-friendly environment in the areas of gender sensitivity.
Council member Deepak Pande, General Manager of Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Siddha Raj Rai, among others said they would always lend their support in making media gender-friendly.
Different working papers were presented in the workshop. Council Chair Basnet presented a working paper on 'Role of Press Council in Formulation and Implementation of Gender Sensitive Media Policy'.
A total of 57 people from different organisations active in the sector of gender and women participated in the programme.
