A three-day Nepali Theater: First International Seminar, 2023 kicked off in Pokhara on Thursday. The event aims to explore ways for the advancement of Nepali theaters as per the need of time.
The event has brought Nepal's 80 senior theater artists and 40 from India together. The seminar will witness presentations of 18 working papers: 10 by the Indian side and eight by Nepali artists on the topic.
According to organiser Nepal Theater Academy, Pokhara, discussion sessions have been scheduled over working papers to be presented during the seminar.
Inaugurating the event, Pokhara Metropolis mayor Dhanraj Acharya said, "The theater art is the fusion of drama writing and its performance." As he said, Pokhara is rich in art, literature and culture and the horizon of its identity should be further expanded through the means of theater art.
"Gravity of the story, versatile characters, purposeful direction and aware artists are the requirements of contemporary theater art," said artist Dr Dayaram Shrestha on the occasion.
Noted senior theater artist Ashesh Malla, writer Sarubhakta Shrestha, Nepal Academy and Gandaki chancellor Surya Khadka Bokharchi were among those highlighting the essence of theater art for keeping the society lively.
