The 3rd South Asian Yoga Sports Competition and Mount Everest Yoga Festival Championship kicked off today. The competition began at the Nepal-India friendly Dharmashala in Tilganga, Kathmandu.
Tangalal Ghising, member secretary of the National Sports Council inaugurated the regional event organized by organized by Nepal Yoga Sports Association
The competition will run until June 10 where athletes from three countries namely Nepal, India and Bangladesh are participating, said Chandramani Dhungana, vice president of Nepal Yoga Sports Association Bhaktapur.
Though seven countries were scheduled to compete the athletes from remaining four countries could not participate due to various reasons. A total of 36 athletes from Nepal are participating in the competition.
The competition is being held in different age groups of 8 to 11 years, 12 to 15, 16 to 18, 19 to 25, 26 to 35 and 35 years and above.
Similarly, the Mount Everest Yoga Festival is also going to be held from June 9 to 10. Athletes from Iran and Saudi Arabia will compete in this competition along with SAARC countries.
Around 300 players will compete in the tournament including 42 from Nepal.
The first South Asian Yoga Games was held in 2074 and the second in 2076 BS.
