Journalist Vaijnath Jha of Saptari has been honored with the prestigious Gopal Chandra Gotame Journalism Award of Mofasal.
At the 11th award distribution ceremony organized by Gopal Chandra Gautam Pratishthan in Birgunj today, Birgunj Municipal Corporation Chief Vijay Kumar Sarawgi awarded journalist Jha with a tola of gold medal and certificate.
Respecting journalist Jha, who has been writing about public affairs in Saptari for more than three decades, Mayor Sarawgi expressed the view that democracy would be strengthened by such acts as honoring a journalist who writes on behalf of the people.
He informed that the corporation has started distributing public welfare advertisements for the sustainable development of the broadcast media from Birgunj as the development of journalism sector strengthens democracy and makes the state accountable.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Sarawgi announced that the corporation would provide Rs. five lakhs.
Addressing the program presided over by Jagdish Sharma, Chairman of the Foundation, Shivahari Bhattarai, Chairman of Madhes Pradesh Media Council, extended best wishes to the award-winning journalist Jha. He informed that the government is preparing to provide life insurance to the journalists in Madhes and provide pension to the senior journalists with effect from the current fiscal year.
