The two rural municipalities in Kavrepalanchowk district-Roshi and Temal have declared public holidays for three days starting from February 1 on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar.
The two rural municipalities have decided to close public offices, banks and financial institutions in their locality for three days to mark this cultural and religious festival celebrated by the Tamang communities as their New Year.
The academic institutions across the country including these two rural municipalities area have already been closed due to risk of COVID-19.
These two rural municipalities have dominance of Tamang communities. Sonam Lhosar this year falls on February 2 and the local government decided to provide two days of holiday- prior and post the festival, said Dal Bahadur Lama, Chairperson of Roshi Rural Municipality.
According to Lama, they declared three-day holiday this year too by exercising the authority enshrined by the constitution. Temal Rural Municipality Chairperson Salam Singh Lama said they also have declared three-day holiday in their rural municipality.
