Four people, including rapper Ashish Rana 'Laure', are in custody for eight days for further investigation, Kaski District Court has stated. They were arrested with drugs at around 7 pm on Wednesday.
The District Police Office, Kaski, had arrested Laure, 32, of Pokhara Nayabazar, Dhruva Bahadur Thapa, 39, of Pokhara 11, Navin Gurung, 30, of Pokhara 7 and Susmita Gurung, 22, of Pokhara 8, along with brown sugar.
As there was public holiday on Thursday, the court proceedings only started on Friday. According to DSP Sundar Tiwari, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kaski, 0.51 grams of brown sugar was initially found with Navin Gurung after receiving information about his involvement in drug trafficking.
Later, during interrogation, it was found that 12.50 grams of brown sugar was hidden in Susmita Gurung's room. "In total, 13.01 grams of brown sugar has been found from them," said spokesperson Tiwari. Police have seized a digital scale, Rs 38,350 in cash, five sets of mobile phones and a scooter with registration number G21P3323.
According to police sources, Ashish Rana, popularly known as Laure, has already confessed to taking drugs. A preliminary statement from the police said, "Laure stated in his preliminary statement that he can not go on the stage without taking drugs."
If it is confirmed that they have been trading drugs, the group, including rapper Laure, could face up to five years in prison. However, there is a legal provision of one year imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10,000 if it is confirmed that the consumption was done without trading.
