Nepali music industry is gradually changing as many young artists are making their way up.
Oasis Thapa, a self-taught singer and songwriter, started his journey when he was a teenager. However, he started posting his originals on YouTube in 2018. He both writes and produces his music at present.
Thapa did not expect to become a professional artist when he first started his musical venture. It was his keen interest in music and strong connection he felt that drove him to pursue it seriously.
“I am happy that I started pursuing music seriously”, adds Thapa.
His journey to becoming a household name in the industry was not an easy one.
Despite constant disbelief and lack of support from his family, he followed his heart and stuck to music. "I was not good at singing. Thus, when I told everyone about what I wanted to do; they made a joke about it. My family wanted me to focus on my studies”, he says. “But I didn’t give up and now they are very supportive of what I do," Thapa adds.
The young singer faced issues during the lockdown like everyone else. He was frustrated but channeled it towards music and song writing. “I did not want to prove the people who did not believe in me, right”, he explains.
Thapa is currently working on singles and plans to collaborate with different artists. He has no plans to do an album in the near future, since it takes over a year to complete.
He has become an inspiration for the youth to follow their dreams no matter what. Today, he receives the love and support from the entire nation and that is something he never expected.
“True vision with self-belief is all that it takes. Paving your own path is difficult, not impossible” he advises. “Do not give up on your dreams. You will find people who support, love and motivate you once you’ve proved yourself”, he adds.
