Pasangdawa ready to climb Mt. Everest for the 24th time

His father was also involved in mountaineering. Although he did not climb Mt. Everest, he had climbed various other smaller mountains like Baruntse and Pumori. Pasangdawa was attracted to the mountains by the influence of his father. Initially, he worked as a babysitter, proudly recounting the photo of him working in Lukla. Afterwards he became a mountaineer while working as a kitchen boy and cook when he was not summiting peaks.

Pasangdawa, who used to climb Mt. Everest every year, had managed to reach the summit twice in the same season in 2001. He was unable to summit the peak in 2014 due to an avalanche, an earthquake in 2015 and the last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, he and his team are leaving for another conquest of Everest 24 times this spring.

Climber Pasangdawa clarified that he climbed the mountains not for name or fame but as a profession and did not climb for any record. He made it clear that although the number of his ascents increased while inviting other foreigners to climb, he did not do so with the intention of winning over others or setting a record.

He told NepalNews that he experienced many incidents while climbing the mountain. He recalled that once he climbed Mt. Everest and while returning, started running out of oxygen. He also recalled 2015 when the tents in the Everest Base Camp were damaged during the quake which was followed by the avalanche

When talking about the improvements required for mountaineering in Nepal, he says that the climbers should be given facilities for treatment in the hospital for any accidents. Even well-known climbers insist on being given a card and special facilities as they have to sit in the public line at the hospitals. Similarly, Pasangdawa stressed that the government should make special arrangements for the livelihood of the families of the climbers who sadly died during summits.

Pasangdawa plans to continue climbing mountains until the age of 55. He does not really care about how many times he will reach the summit of Mt. Everest by then. Pasangdawa clarified the purpose of summiting Mt. Everest continuously has never been to break the record of 25 climbs of the famous climber Kamirita.
