As winter is over, it’s due season to bring on the clear spirits, fruit juices and crushed ice. Served in tall, frosted glassware, summer cocktails and mocktails could stand spark and refreshing as the warmer seasons demand.

Situated in the heart of Kathmandu, Durbarmarg; London Pub is the first English Pub which opened in 2019. The dimly lit underground basement and cosy ambience of the pub shortens the nostalgic English feel with thrilling indoor games like Dart and Foosball. One can also enjoy the live music performances while taking sips of their drinks. To top that off, Thursday nights at London Pub is Salsa Night!

For this intense heat, London Pub has come up with some fascinating cocktails and mocktails. The manager of London Pub, Kumar Dumjan Tamang says that, “Since summer is here, we created something new. ‘Bartender special’ is for those who come here to take a break from everyday hassle.”

“It is more like a refreshment kind of drink, made up of fresh fruits. So, it is not targeted to any age group from 21 to 50. It is for everyone as everybody loves cocktails”, he adds. These whiskey-based drinks are a full package of fruitiness.

Raju Paudel, the bartender of the very Pub came up with 4 different drinks; 2 cocktails and 2 mocktails, which looked magnificently appealing.

Naughty Honey; light yet refreshing

The first drink I had was Naughty Honey. The mixture of whiskey, almond liqueur, lemon juice, and honey was rich and dainty. “I also mix apple juice and shake the mixture”, says Paudel.

It tasted rich and sweet with a strong almond flavour and a subtly bitter finish. The drink literally lightened up my mood briskly leaving a delicious after taste of the whiskey in my mouth.

London Pub Delight; a gin based cocktail

The concoction of London Pub Delight is made of Gin, albumen, strawberry, and lemon juice. The drink was smooth to swallow and the rich texture of the albumen cream stayed in my mouth. The taste of this new drink was actually different but in a good way. From the presentation to taste everything was on point.

Sparky Sunrise; orange juice special

The very mocktail was a special combination of orange juice, peach syrup and soda. It was deftly sweet and sour at the same moment. The drink was very refreshing, making me forget my wear out. This is also one of the in-house specials or most popular mocktails.

Raspberry Smash; magic of berries

The whole process of making this cocktail is shockingly magical. Fusion of raspberry syrup, blackberry syrup, lemon juice and cranberry juice made the drink revive me. Taking a sip, the taste of the mixture of berries was strong, sweet and delicious. “This cocktail is for ladies as it has the balance of sweetness with the combination of the mixture of berries”, the bartender explains.

“I kept on experimenting with cocktails with whiskeys, vodkas and gins. At first, I didn’t like the taste so I had to make some changes in the ingredients and finally got the taste I wanted it to be like”, Paudel adds.

About salsa night, Tamang says, “We used to have live music everyday by 7 different bands. But then, we decided to do something extra to give a new feeling of ambience to our customers. And that is how we have ‘Salsa Night’ every Thursday from 7pm - 11pm.”

Salsa instructor Binayak Das Shrestha says “My students, who are of different ages come here for salsa night with their partners. They are also of different backgrounds; from nurses to pharmacists, air hostess, pilot, bankers and engineers.”

“Even though they are from different backgrounds, they come together on the same floor for salsa. It doesn’t matter where they come from, what their aim is, they just come here and enjoy it together’, he adds.

The place is a whole package of surprises. From indoor games to salsa to their own signature cocktails created by their bartender, they have it all. Also their effort of bringing the vibes of London to Nepal is appreciable. And for the drinks and food, they are launching the whole menu after New year’s eve.
