Siddharthanagar, also known as Bhairahawa, is a municipality and also the administrative headquarter of Rupandehi district in Lumbini Province of Nepal. It is the Nepal-India border from Belahiya.
Not only is it a beautiful place to visit but it also offers different dishes that some might not have tried or even heard of. So, if you are planning on visiting Bhairahawa anytime soon, here are the some of the dishes that you should not miss. Not only do they taste good but are also affordable.
• Fulki
Fulki, a round, hollow, puri fried crisp which is filled with a mixture of flavored water (Tamarind water), potato, chickpeas, tamarind, chili, and snack spice (chaat masala). It is a very popular dish in Bhairahawa that cost about Rs 50 per plate.
You can even ask them to make the dish in your liking. So, if you are a big fan of spicy and sour food, do not forget to ask to level up the heat. While some might confuse; fulki with pani-puri, the taste of both dishes are very different from each other.
• Spring roll
Super quality chicken corner located in Kalikasthan, Bhairahawa, serves a very delicious spring roll filled with a variety of fresh veggies like carrots, bell pepper, and cabbage. They also add chicken in it which is served with green chutney: a blend of green chilies, cumin, coriander and mint leaves, and red chutney: made of tomatoes, spices and herbs.
The business had started 7 years; and it is very popular among the locals. They also serve sausages, chicken lollipops and dumplings (Momo).
• Dahi vada
Dahi vada, a type of chaat prepared by soaking vadas, originated from the Indian cuisine, is a popular dish throughout South Asia. It is made from black lentils and served with sweet creamy yoghurt adding chaat masala and chili powder to balance the dish.
You can get dahi vada in every sweet shop in Bhairahawa which will cost you Rs 100per plate.
• Paratha of UCMS
It might sound a bit weird for the people who have not been in Bhairawa but if you have a hectic day and want some place to relax, then Universal College of Medical Sciences and Teaching Hospital (UCMS), Paklihawa, is the best place to be.
And outside the campus you can find numbers of local dhabas which serve amazingly delicious parathas.Chicken paratha with chutney (pickle), which only cost about Rs 100 is a popular dish recommended by all the locals. You can also order anda (egg) paratha and aloo (potato) paratha there at the dhaba.
• Motichoor laddu and Raj kachori of Nandan
Motichoor laddu, made with gram flour, sugar, and spices, is a soft dessert that melts in your mouth.
Nandan Sweets serves one of the best laddus in Bhairahawa which cost Rs 900 per kg. You will find two colors of laddus; yellow and red.
You can also try Raj Kachori there as well, which is made out of the mix of granulated wheat (sooji or suji), all-purpose flour and gram flour (besan). And it is topped with lots of yogurt, spices, cilantro served with sweet tamarind chutney, and pomegranate on the top.
