Shilpee Theater Nepal: Travelling to east

Shilpee recently traveled towards the eastern part of the country with their latest act "Thulo Machha- Sano Machha" (Big Fish - Small Fish). Starting from Panchali, Biratnagar, they have already performed in different places of Morang district. The team now plans to travel to Sunsari and Jhapa next.

Thulo Machha- Sano Machha is an act based on the reality of society. Director Yubaraj Ghimire has attempted to portray the instability in the government and its effects on the commoners. "Thulo Machha- Sano Machha is a must-watch for people who want to understand the reality of our society", Ghimire says. The play depicts stories of different people like an old woman struggling in her old age, a father running door to door for the sake of his daughter, and corruption in different sectors.

Ghimire and 13 actors rehearsed for almost 28 days regularly before performing in front of an audience. "The act is around 50 minutes and carries 3 different languages", Ghimire says. ". We have included songs and chorus in between", he adds. The first show was held on an open stage in Basantapur, Kathmandu on 7th October 2021.

Shilpee Theatre has been actively working to connect people and the artists to travel across Nepal during the Participatory Theater (Forum Theater or Backward Classes Theater) project. It is a suitable place for people who want to learn about types of acting and storytelling as the theatre hosts different drama workshops every now and then.

Situated in Battisputali, Kathmandu, Shilpee Theatre has a capacity of 210 seats for regular staging. Double cafes and libraries are also available on campus. The theatre also runs three months of training to newcomers where national and international acting students collaborate together.

After doing many communities and society-based plays, both indoors and outdoors since 2006, Shilpee Theatre Nepal is grateful to finally be able to take their acts to different parts of the country.
