On Saturday night, Sushant KC performed alongside The Bangers and Redmus in an event at Club Platinum managed by Garage Entertainment. Unlike his previous show, also managed by Garage Entertainment at Silver Oak Banquet, this show catered to a more mature audience (given its club venue). The gates for the event opened at 6pm and were only open to individuals 18 and above.
"This show, along with the show at Silver Oak Banquet, was scheduled for last year, but unfortunately, due to COVID, we had to postpone it to this year. This show was handled by Club Platinum after we confirmed the date less than a month ago", says Amar Neupane, KC's manager.
Before his performance, from around 8pm to 11pm, the band Free Birds performed for the crowd. They performed hits like Muskan, Dadhelo, Farki Farki, Stand By Me and a few of their originals. As the crowd started trickling in, so did the enthusiasm.
In a story on the Club Platinum Instagram account, singer KC said, "This is going to be my last show in Kathmandu for a while, so I hope you guys can join us"—and so they did, filling the club to the brim, all two floors of it.
"As an artist, things have to be balanced—shows, studio time, and personal life. We have to balance Sushant's new releases in a way that does not hamper his personal life. He is also currently pursuing a Bachelor's in music production and songwriting; balancing all these components of his life is challenging. Due to this, we do a minimal number of shows. Shows are a way to connect with the audience, and we want to do limited shows to build up the excitement", Neupane says in response to the frequency of his shows.
"Artists' timings at the show usually depend on the venue—if it's a restaurant, dinner time would be appropriate. At Silver Oak Banquet, we wanted to host fans who couldn't stay out late. This show is at a club, so we target fans who want to stay late at night", explained his manager. He further added, "He will perform around 10"—he did not. Although understandable why late shows are appropriate at the club, it started about 5.5 hours after the gates opened. After much anticipation and impatient chants of ‘We want Sushant’ from the crowd, KC took to the stage at around 11:30pm; the wait was worth it.
"I felt like the late entrance was off-putting—the crowd was tired of waiting. However, the energy returned to the floor after Sushant KC's entrance. I just wish he had come sooner since I had to go shortly after his performance started as it was nearing midnight", says audience member Anjish Pradananga. These timing mishaps happen quite regularly during shows and is something the crowd must always keep in mind. Besides, other talented singers from Garage Entertainment kept the crowd company during their wait for the star.
He opened his show with a terrific performance of his song "Behos", swaying the crowd to his magnificent stage presence. This number was shortly followed by his number one hit on Spotify, "Risaune Bhayo". Before his heartwarming performance of his song "Aama", an ode to mothers, he humorously added, "If your mom calls you scolding right now and asks you to come home ASAP, put this song on speaker". Sushant KC's melodic voice brought about the best in the crowd, screaming at the top of their lungs to each of his songs—truly a night to remember.
