Maghe Sankranti or Makar Sankranti is being celebrated throughout the country today. On this day, people feast on certain food items such as Chaaku (retreated molasses), Tilauri and Til ko Laddu (a chewy candy made out of sesame seeds and sugar), Ghee (clarified butter), Khichadi (rice cooked with black gram daal), sweet potatoes, Taro Roots, Yam, and spinach. All food items during the festival focus on healthy eating that warms the body during the winter, gives good nourishment, to live life free of diseases, and also purifies one's body.
