At least six suspects were killed Friday as Brazilian police carried out its operation in Salvador, local media reported.
Salvador is the capital of the state of Bahia, with a population of more than 2.9 million.
The police launched a mega-operation against a criminal group accused of murdering more than 30 people this month, which has resulted in 34 deaths so far.
Friday's operation sought to execute 43 search and arrest warrants against the criminal gang accused of the multiple murders.
Released video footage showed that weapons, drugs and cash were seized during the operation.
Bahia has been facing a serious security and violence crisis for months, with an increase in fighting between criminal factions, killings and an escalation of police deaths, mainly in the suburbs of large cities.
