Buddha Jayanti marked in Beijing

The Embassy of Nepal in China marked the 2568th Buddha Jayanti by organizing a programme in Beijing on Thursday.

More than 120 participants including Ambassadors, diplomats, Chinese nationals from various organizations, members of the Nepali community living in China and representatives from the media attended the event.

Nepal's Ambassador to China, Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, extended his greetings on the auspicious occasion and emphasized that Buddha’s eternal teachings will inspire whole of humanity to lead a noble, compassionate, moral and meaningful life; and in combating global challenges faced by the world.

He further highlighted that the longstanding ties between the two countries which is rooted in the principles of Panchasheel symbolizes Buddhist spirituality.

On the occasion, monk Chang Zang, Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China and Abbot of Beijing Lingguang Temple shed light on the close bond between the peoples of Nepal and China, according to the Embassy of Nepal in China. He expressed hope for continued cooperation in fostering peace and prosperity for both nations and the global community.

Likewise, the Buddhist Monks offered prayers to Lord Buddha for world peace and harmony. The programme also featured singing bowls performances and meditation.

Buddha’s paintings were also displayed on the occasion, the Embassy shared.

Meanwhile, the Hyalmo Society of Canada is scheduled to organize a grand festival at Toronto in Canada in association with the Indigenous Nationalities Association of Canada.

Issuing a press statement, the Society stated that prayers and different cultural performances will be offered on the occasion. The organizer has expected participation of as many as 1,000 participants including the guests and the members of the Hyalmo community in Canada and the US.
