At least 63 people were killed in an explosion at a gold mine in Burkina Faso on Monday. As a result, other workers and employees working in the mine have been reported killed.
Dozens of others were injured in the blast. The death toll could rise further as many of the injured are in critical condition, local officials said. The local government has ordered the mine to close immediately. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police station in the southwestern province of Zibo Bora.
Police have arrested the operators of the mine. It is said that they will be investigated for non-compliance with the required safety standards during the operation of the mine.
