The death toll from a volcanic eruption in Jakarta, Indonesia, has risen to 39. The eruption occurred last Saturday in the district of Lumajang in the eastern part of Indonesia's Java province. The locals have been badly affected by this. Several are said to have died while fleeing from the ashes and volcanic debris.
About 4,000 people have been evacuated from the affected areas. Rescuers are battling a dangerous situation while searching for survivors and bodies in volcanic debris, collapsed buildings, and wrecked vehicles.
Abdul Muhari, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Department, said 12 people were still missing.
