Rival neighbours Pakistan and India have pledged to stop firing weapons across the border in disputed Kashmir, promising to adhere to a 2003 accord that has been largely ignored, officials from both sides said on Thursday, February 25, 2021. The Nigerian army said its troops killed scores of extremist militants on Monday in an ambush in the northeast Adamawa state.

In a brief statement posted on social media, the army said the troops acted on an intelligence report and laid an ambush in the early hours of Monday on the Boko Haram militants at the state's Mandara mountains.

"Scores of terrorists were neutralized at Mandara mountains. Weapons, equipment and unexploded IEDs (improvised explosive devices) were recovered," the statement said, without giving more details.

Boko Haram has been trying to establish an Islamist state in northeastern Nigeria since 2009. The terror group has also extended its attacks to other countries in the Lake Chad Basin. Enditem.
