Contractors not completing work in time to face action

The Finance and Development Committee of Gandaki Pradesh has directed to take action against the contractor who does not work within the stipulated time. The directive was given by committee chairperson Deepak Koirala after a discussion held by the committee on Wednesday in the presence of the secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Urban and Transport Management.

The committee has also instructed the ministry not to cut the plans in the red book. Giving instructions to move ahead with the important project as a project, the committee has also asked not to stop the payment to the company that completes the construction by completing the quality standards on time. Stating that attention has been drawn to the fact that the work will be done only at the end of the four-month period and the budget has been finalized, the committee has requested to create a working environment before the next four-month period.

Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, Urban and Transport Management, Ram Chandra Shrestha, said that the ministry was working to bring those who do good work on time and encourage them. Admitting the work is also being affected due to the lack of skilled engineers, he said that half of the manpower had to work, they had to hire temporary engineers to teach the work.

He urged the federal government to push for the enactment of the civil service act as the state public service commission has not been able to recruit permanent staff. Stating that due to lack of budget, many plans could not be carried out, he said, "We need Rs. 10 billion to implement the current plans, but we have only Rs. 5.28 billion budget. . ”

State Assembly members Chandra Mohan Gauchan, Binod KC, Meen Prasad Gurung, Sarita Gurung, and Ram Parajuli, Chief of Roads and Buildings Division, spoke on the occasion. The chiefs and representatives of the infrastructure development offices in all the 11 districts of the state said that the infrastructure construction work could not be carried out as planned due to lack of budget, lack of staff, and lack of technical work including EI and IEE.

Expressing virtual participation, he said that the work can be done in a visible way if the budget is provided by managing the staff. During the meeting, the committee was briefed about the progress of 36 model roads and motorable bridges in the state with the heads and representatives of the infrastructure development offices of all 11 districts.
