Tourists visiting the Rara Lake in Mugu district have faced difficulties due to a lack of proper accessible roads.
The Nagma-Gamgadhi road that leads to the lake has been damaged at various areas. So much so, it turns dusty during winter and muddy during monsoon, making it difficult for tourists to navigate to the lake.
Despite repeated calls, the road has yet to be blacktopped, said Bishwo Babu Shrestha, chief of the Rara National Park. Budget has not been allocated for blacktopping the road, said the Road Division Office, Jumla.
The local people have expressed their concern about budget for the next fiscal year, 2023/24 not prioritising the road.
"It is a matter of concern that the Nagma-Sinja-Gamgadhi road has not been prioritised in the budget. The lawmakers representing Jumla and Mugu district should draw the attention of the Finance Minister, and register an amendment proposal on the issue," said Purna Prasad Dhital, chairperson of the Sinja Rural Municipality.
The government should focus on blacktopping the road to promote tourism, he demanded.
