Gandaki Law, Communications, and Provincial Assembly Affairs Minister Bindukumar Thapa has said that unnecessary deforestation should be stopped. Inaugurating the first convention of the Democratic Forest Professionals Association of Nepal Gandaki Pradesh in Pokhara today, he pointed out the need for forests in Nepal and the need to work for its protection.
"Unnecessary deforestation is causing problems such as natural disasters," he said. He informed that the state government was preparing to draft an act on forest protection and it was stopped due to some cumbersome policies of the federal government. Stating that forests should be linked with the development and prosperity of the country, he said that the role of forest technicians was important in forest conservation.
Expressing confidence that the forest would also help in the development of the tourism sector, he said that the conservation of the community forest would not deplete the rare wildlife found in Nepal and would increase the number of tourists for observation.
Stating that the state government is committed to reducing the problems of forest technicians, Minister Thapa stressed the need to create a conducive working environment for skilled manpower in Nepal. Stating that some timber is rotting in the forest due to the anti-development forest act, he said that the act should be amended to make it development friendly. He is of the view that old trees should be used for wood products while conserving the forest.
