Home Minister Balkrishna Khand has assured of initiation to address the issues of sexual and gender monitories. During his meeting with a joint delegation from the Federation of Sexual and Gender Minorities, Nepal, and the Blue Diamond Society today at the Ministry, the Minister said this, according to Blue Diamond Society (BDS) executive director Manisha Dhakal. The delegation apprised the Home Minister about hurdles and challenges they are facing to acquire citizenship and requested him for facilitation to solve the problems.
Likewise, the delegation had urged the Minister to use his good offices to forward the report on giving equal recognition to same-sex marriage prepared by a government committee. The report is reportedly lying unattended in the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizen (MoWCSC).
They also drew the Minister's attention, stating the sexual and gender minorities were not included in the definition of minority. Executive Director of BDS, Dhakal informed that they were going to organise programmes in the districts on coming Sunday and Monday in connection to the national census. They also urged the Minister to instruct the District administration Offices for coordination to that.
Minister Khand said that he would take initiative for resolving the problem after assessing the status of the team's demands.
