Malaysia today serves as a hub for countless Nepali’s seeking foreign employment in the Island nation with the numbers flocking to the shores of the nation every year. However a majority of these workers reside and work in the country illegally after their visa expirations.

The Malaysian government in response to this increasing number of illegal immigrants are bringing forth a host of new regulations. These new rules are divided amongst two major regulations, the first one being that they will re-qualify to work in Malaysia legally if they complete certain processes, the second being a return back to Nepal after paying a concessional penalty rate to the government.

The reparation period for these illegal workers has also been increased to 6 more months for these workers to complete and qualify under one of those two processes. The Second Secretary of Nepalese Embassy in Malaysia Yashu Basnet has stated that Nepali people have been living illegally in the region for years now and that they'll finally be able to return home by next June.

As per the Illegal Persons repartition Program, once the fine is paid, the workers shall be sent straight back home.

Secretary Basnet speaking of the rehiring of these workers added that there was no way that they would be reissued Visas and that rehiring would be stopped.

Earlier, Nepalis living in the country were given a deadline till December however some weren't able to return home due to their contracts with their companies. The workers returning home if double jabbed need not stay in the mandatory hotel quarantine, however those who are only single jabbed need to quarantine according to Government mandates.
