A fire at a shoe factory in Mechinagar, Jhapa has caused millions of rupees in damages. The fire at SS Footwear run by Shyam Khaitan in Mechinagar Municipality-6 Burmeli Tol on Thursday caused a loss of about Rs 85 million, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Pathak.
The fire was brought under control after five hours. It took a long time to control the fire as there were rubber, chemical, and other items used in making shoes in the industry. Spokesperson Pathak said that 11 fire department vehicles have been mobilized from Jhapa, Morang, and India to control the fire. The Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and locals provided significant assistance to put out the fire.
