Farmers of Banke are frustrated as they do not have chemical fertilizer for paddy seeds. Farmers who have been busy transplanting in the last few days have not been able to get the fertilizer required in the paddy field as well as the urea and DAP fertilizer required after transplanting.
Manoj Kumar Sonkar of Nepalgunj-18 Lagdahawa says that if fertilizer is not applied in the seedbed, the seed will not be sown and production will decrease. Hundreds of farmers visit the Nepalgunj-based Agricultural Ingredients Company daily to buy chemical fertilizers. They are forced to return home empty-handed.
Savit Ram Yadav of Duduwa Gaonpalika-6 Hiraminiya said that the farmers were forced to enter the Indian market as they could not get fertilizer for seeds. He said that the farmers were worried as they could not apply fertilizer to the main crop paddy.
The subsidy concessions distributed to the farmers through the Agricultural Ingredients Company have not been sufficient. Banke requires 1,200 metric tons of DAP, 3,000 metric tons of urea and 50 metric tons of potash fertilizer for paddy cultivation. Chief of the office Ramesh Poudel said that only a small amount of manure was received.
