Three adult rhinos have been found dead Chitwan in a span of five days. However, Chitwan National Park has yet to make the details public. Some speculate that park officials may have tried to hide the death toll, claiming that fewer rhinos died in their time.
Last December, Bharatpur Municipal Corporation ward no. 16 found a dead rhino however the cause is yet to be found. The park estimates that the rhinos may have died after eating the poisonous grass.
Two days later two rhinos were found dead again in the park. A 26-year-old male rhinoceros has been found dead in Bagar of Bhimli in the Tiger Tops area of the park. According to sources, a female rhinoceros was found dead in the island area of Amaltari area of Nawalparasi the next day.
Chitwan National Park administration has yet to report the death of the two rhinos even though it has been two weeks. According to park sources, both the rhinos drowned in the mud. The horns and hooves of both the rhinos are safe. The Division Forest Office is investigating the incident.
