As many as 200 incidents of violence against women and children occurred across the country in a month period, a data reveals.
WOREC-Nepal shared that the cases of violence were recorded via two hotlines as well as through mobilization of women human rights activists and community women organization. It is informed that 45 per cent survivors were compelled to face violence from their husbands and family members. Most of the domestic violence cases were related to dowry and son preference, WOREC noted.
Among other cases include ill-treatment to children, negligence to girl children, ignorance in vital registration, denial in giving details for citizenship certificates and reluctance for marriage registration.
According to the record, total 68 husbands and 22 other family members were found guilty in the incidents of violence against women in these cases. As per the monitoring report, other domestic violence cases are of rape (15), social violence (15), murder (14), murder attempt (5), sexual harassments (6), suicide (4), human trafficking (2), and other kinds of violence (17).
It is reported that two persons had attempted to commit suicide due to gender-based violence, said WOREC executive director Luvraj Neupane.
