The District Traffic Office has taken action against the drivers of about 15,000 vehicles in a period of four months. Drivers of 14,950 vehicles have been punished from last July to mid-November.
A revenue of Rs.1,01,64,000 has been collected. Most of the punished are motorcyclists. In the first four months of the current fiscal year, 27 vehicles were involved in accidents. At least 12 people were killed and 40 others injured in the accident, said Dolindra Bahadur Hamal, chief of the district traffic office. Radar guns have been used on the Prithvi Highway since September 19 to control vehicles' speed to reduce road accidents.
There are 144 traffic cones, traffic signs, and hoarding boards in different places for traffic management. He said, "7,640 people have benefited from conducting 43 on road accident reduction." In the current fiscal year, 16,715 pamphlets have been distributed a total of 93 times to reduce road accidents, said Hamal.
Under the 'One Minute with Driver' program, 23,897 drivers participated while conducting the program 276 times in the current fiscal year.
