160 houses at high risk

Land erosion has started in the district due to incessant rains since Monday night. President of the Red Cross Society Jhapa Lokraj Dhakal informed that the Ratuwa River has started cutting in Kamal Village Municipality-5, 6 and 7. Similarly, the embankment constructed under the people's embankment at Khairbari of Kamal-6 has also started cutting.

Ghanshyam Dhimal and Dhanmaya Tamang of the same village have lost two sugar farms. The families of Ward No. 6 and 7 are at risk, according to the Red Cross Jhapa. Kamalkhola has also demolished the old dam at Kamalpul Ghat north of Kempa Bazaar.

Meanwhile, about 60 houses in Kohwara North Tangwa of Gauradaha-5 and 6 have been inundated by the Ratuwa Khola while 125 houses in Lelia Dangi of Gauradaha-6 are at high risk due to the Ratuwakhola flowing from both sides. Thirty-five houses are at high risk when they enter the Damunakhola squatter settlement in Gauradaha-6.

Due to the rain, water of Kamal-Baniani River has flooded in Santhal Basti (squatter settlement) of Shivasatakshi Municipality-4. Thirty houses have been inundated after the river entered the settlement. According to the Nepal Red Cross Society, Jhapa, 106 people of the settlement have been kept at the local Tribhuvan University after about four feet of water flooded the settlement.
