The government has said that 4 million Moderna vaccines will arrive by Tuesday.
Dr Surendra Chaurasia, the chief of the Logistic Management Section under the Department of Health Services said that 4 million Moderna vaccines would be provided for children between the ages of 12 and 17.
The government has procured 4 million vaccines in partnership with COVAX facility with the financial assistance of the World Bank. The department has stated that the vaccine will be given to the children of 17 districts.
Earlier, the government had vaccinated Moderna in 57 districts and Pfizer vaccine in three districts (Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur). The government has also decided to open the school for a four-day vaccination campaign from January 29.
Children from Kavre, Chitwan, Sindhuli, Dadeldhura, Surkhet, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Dhanusha, Parsa, Kaski, Baglung, Rupandehi, Banke, Dang and Kailali will be vaccinated.
Similarly, the government is preparing to vaccinate children in the age group of 5 to 11 years. Chaurasia informed that the process has been started for purchasing Pfizer vaccine tp vaccinate children in the age group of 5 to 11 years.
"We have not been able to vaccinate children between the ages of 5 and 11. Now, the government plans to vaccinate, " said Chaurasia. "We have put forward a proposal to purchase 8.4 million vaccines," he adds.
