Govinda Prasad Sharma Koirala, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Peace and Human Rights, met with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council, in Geneva today.
During the meeting, issues related to bilateral cooperation in the field of human rights were discussed, according to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Koirala mentioned that Nepal is working towards the conclusion of the transitional justice process and the new amendment bill of the Enforced Disappearance and Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, 2014 will be tabled in the parliament soon.
He also appreciated the support of OHCHR during the peace process while thanking them for their continued cooperation in the transitional justice process.
In the meeting, the High Commissioner assured of his continued support towards the conclusion of the transitional justice process. Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ilze Brands Kehris and OHCHR Chief of Asia Pacific Section Rory Mungoven were also present.
Also today, Advisor Koirala met with the Australian Assistant Foreign Minister Tim Watts. During the meeting, matters pertaining to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation were discussed.
Likewise, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sewa Lamsal delivered a statement during the high-level meeting commemorating the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, in the Human Rights Council today.
On the occasion, Joint Secretary Lamsal underscored that the commemorating event would contribute to gathering consensus among member states in making the Right to Development a universal and inalienable right in achieving the common aspiration of 'leaving no one behind', according to a statement released by the Permanent Mission today.
