Dr. Thomas Prinz, German Ambassador, Elisabeth von Capeller, Swiss Ambassador, Takahiro Tamura, DCM from the Japanese Embassy met with Narayan Prakash Saud, Minister for Foreign Affairs. The delegation briefed Hon. Minister regarding the Ottawa Convention and encouraged Nepal to become part of the convention.
The Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction typically referred to as the "Ottawa Convention" or "Mine Ban Treaty," seeks to end the use of anti-personnel landmines (APLs) worldwide.
To combat and eliminate mines, Germany currently holds the presidency of the OttawaConvention and works together with 163 States for a mine-free world, promotes clearance education and victim assistance in many affected countries.
