The Beni-Jomsom road, which connects the Himalayan district Mustang with the national highway through the northern region of Myagdi, has come into operation after six days. Due to the landslide in Annapurna Gaonpalika-3 Kavre of the district and obstruction of locals, the 76 km long Beni-Jomsom road was closed to direct traffic from July 4.

According to the District Police Office of Myagdi, the road has been repaired on Saturday evening with the consent of the locals.

Residents of Kavre had obstructed the road maintenance and construction demanding compensation for the land damaged by the landslide and protection of the settlements at risk. Shyam Kumar Rai, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Myagdi, said that the agreement was reached after the project committed to provide compensation by assessing the land damaged during the road expansion and to protect the settlements at risk.

Discussions were held in Kavre on Friday in the presence of Mustang state assembly members Mahendra Bahadur Thakali, Chandra Mohan Gauchan, Srinath Poudel, Myagdi's Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari, fighter Keshav Silwal, Pranau Rai, Armed Police Deputy Superintendent Hari Bahadur Gurung and National Investigation Officer Mahesh Gurung.

According to Khadak Khatri, the landslide washed away about 15 meters of road in Kavre, and also washed away the cultivable land of the locals and endangered 15 houses. The road project has committed to expedite the process for compensation of the land and work for conservation after the rains.

The Beni-Jomsom road was blocked and locals of Raghuganga, Annapurna and Mustang districts of Myagdi were in trouble. It was a hassle to change vehicles for transportation. Transportation and evacuation were halted. There was a problem in taking the patient to the hospital.

After the repair, the vehicles stopped on the road are heading towards the destination. The Beni-Jomsom road, which is being upgraded, has been repeatedly blocked due to landslides. Roads at Rahughat, Begkhola, Rupsekhola and Kavrebhir of Myagdi have been blocked.
