Deputy-Speaker of the House of Representatives Indira Rana has said she started her political career to ensure and protect child rights.
Receiving an honour conferred on single mothers by Nepali film 'Bagan' here on Wednesday, Deputy-Speaker Rana laid emphasis on the need of formulating bill for child rights. "Any bill related to children has not been formulated. Children's rights should be guaranteed and protected," she said.
Rana shared that she was compelled to end her married life within two years of having a daughter, adding, "The power of a mother can be felt only after becoming a mother."
Single women--CNN Hero Anuradha Koirala, Province Assembly member Mina Shrestha, media persons Babita Basnet, Komal Kumari KC, mother of actress Karishma Manandhar, Durga Sapkota, mother of actress of Puja Sharma, were honoured on the occasion.
