Bird flu has been confirmed in a Turkish farm in Tatapani of Birendranagar Municipality-3 of Surkhet. A test conducted at the Central Veterinary Disease Research Laboratory in Kathmandu today confirmed bird flu in the firm's turkey.

After more than 100 turkeys died, samples were sent to Kathmandu for testing. Prachanda Khadka, head of the Directorate of Livestock and Poultry Development, Surkhet, said that the deaths were due to bird flu in Turkey. An emergency meeting of the Bird Flu Control Committee held at the District Administration Office has directed to destroy four chickens and turkeys after the bird flu was confirmed.

The Directorate of Livestock and Poultry Development has stated that a team including a veterinarian is preparing to destroy the birds reared in the area up to 500 meters from the place where bird flu was seen. There are about 1,500 more turkeys in the bird flu outbreak farm.

Chief District Officer Khagendra Prasad Rijal said that the farmers of Surkhet Valley have been alerted to prevent the spread of bird flu. He said, "We have requested to stop the consumption and sale distribution and inform the veterinarian if any suspicious symptoms are seen in the birds."
