Vice Chancellor of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) in Dharan, Dr Gyanendra Giri, has called the protesting parties for talks. Issuing a statement, Dr Giri has said that the demands made by the protesting side are genuine and has appealed to them to come for a dialogue.

He has mentioned that the institutional reforms that the protesting side has sought are genuine and they could be addressed through talks and by working together. Dr Giri had called members of the protesting side for talks on Tuesday but they had walked away from the dialogue stating that Dr Giri was drunk when he had come for the meeting.

Members of the protesting side added they had quit the meeting as Dr Giri was behaving in an incoherent manner. Dr Padam Nepali, Vice President of the Junior Resident Welfare Society and a member of the agitating side, said after they left the room Dr Giri and other officers had locked the room and stayed inside.

Stating that Dr Giri had come for the meeting in an inebriated state the protesters started shouting slogans in front of the vice chancellor’s office demanding a medical examination be conducted on whether Dr Giri was drunk or not.

Teachers, students and other staff of BPKIHS formed a struggle committee and launched protests since June 15 demanding that the shortcomings that have surfaced in recent times at the institute be dealt to make it better.
