274 schools in six districts of Gorkha, Dhading, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Makawanpur and Lalitpur have been reconstructed with Japanese assistance. The new school buildngs are of multi-hazard resilient structure with all modern facilities. Most of new schools buildings are designed to provide more comfortable learning environment for students of any age and gender or disabled students.
In addition, these school buildings can be used as emergency shelters, not only for students, but also for the local community, in the event of a disaster.
These schools were rebuilt according to the "Build Back Better" principle, integrating disaster risk reduction measures to enhance resilience of the whole community.
