Cases of criminal offences of serious nature have increased in the past eight months in Nepal.
Though the overall data of crimes registered in the Nepal Police in the past eight months of current fiscal year is relatively less than of the corresponding period last year, the figure of crimes of serious nature is high, said Police Spokesperson senior superintendent of police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar. However, the total registration of crimes in the eight months is 16.16 percent less than of the corresponding period last year. Till mid- March of the current fiscal year, 26,306 cases of crime were registered in the police from throughout the country. When we analyse the data, it shows that around 110 cases happened each day, according to SSP Kunwar.
The total registration is relatively less than of the previous year, but the cases of murder increased by 21.13 percent to be counted at 447. The highest number of cases are related to suicide, 4,483 in the eight months of the current fiscal year as against 3,534 in the corresponding period last year and the increase is 26.85 percent.
Data shows on average 17 people committed suicide each day.
