Chatur Tamang's success on Mount Elbrus for the 138th time

2023 Aug 16, 13:00,

Nepali climber and mountain guide Chatur Tamang has again achieved success in Europe's largest mountain Elbrus. He has climbed Mount Elbrus 138 times with continuous success in climbing for the past few weeks. A team of 4 including him climbed Mount Elbrus at 7:50 am yesterday.

In 1874 an English expedition led by F. Crauford Grove reached the West summit. Since then Elbrus has been climbed by 1000s of mountaineers, including some of the world's best climbers who bag the mountain as part of their Seven Summits bid.

The first recorded climb of the mountain was in 1829 by Killar Khashirov, who reached the lower east summit. The higher west summit was reached in 1874 when the guide Akhia Sottaiev led a team of British and Swiss climbers to the peak.

Mount Elbrus is home to 22 glaciers that feed 3 rivers, Baksan, Malka and Kuban. The mountain is covered in snow all year round.
