The Class 12 examinations which have been pending for a long time will start on August 15. The Office of the Controller of Examinations under the National Examinations Board (NEB) has issued a notice mentioning the dates for the tests of the various subjects that the students will be sitting for.
Though the Class 12 examinations were supposed to have started on June 9 they had been postponed due to the prohibitory orders that have been imposed across the country to stop the spread of the second wave of the coronavirus.
The National Examinations Board had started making preparations to conduct the Class 12 examination from July 19 after the COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) had agreed to grant the board permission to conduct the examination. Prior to that too the NEB had written to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology seeking permission to hold the Class 12 examinations in the physical presence of students in classes.
Meanwhile, the NEB has said the Class 12 examinations this year will have 100 full marks for each subject citing that the previous assessment method of examinations was not effective.
Last year, the board had held examinations of Class 12 for the evaluation of 40 per cent marks; another 40 per cent was assessed based on the scores the students had secured from Class 11, and 20 per cent marks were assessed through the internal evaluation conducted by the educational institutions the students belonged to. The NEB had held examinations in 4,105 centres across the country.
According to NEB, there are a total of 386,000 candidates for the Class 12 examinations this year.
