The Election Commission has suggested the government to hold the mid-term elections for the House of Representatives in a single phase.
The government had announced that the mid-term elections would be held in two phases on November 12 and 19. However, Chief Election Commissioner, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, has said that he has advised the government to hold election in a single phase as that would help save a lot of government money.
Thapaliya stated that the suggestion to hold the mid-term election in a single phase was given to the government because it will help the Election Commission save Rs one billion if the advice is followed.
It has been estimated that the commission will require nearly Rs eight billion to hold the elections. Since Rs one billion can be saved if the elections are held in a single phase, the commission has advised the government accordingly as it will be difficult to manage funds when the country is reeling under the second wave of the coronavirus.
