The death toll in a jeep accident in Baitadi has risen to six. The jeep (No. 1J310) heading towards Dasharathchanda-6 Simayal carrying a procession from Dasharathchanda Municipality-2 Dehimadu of the district met with an accident at Dasharathchanda-4 Kaluwad junction under Gothalapani-Jhulaghat road section of Dasharathchanda Highway at 8.30 pm on Sunday.
Five of the seven people in the jeep died on the spot and one died on the way to Dhangadhi for treatment. The jeep driver, Deepak Mali, 40, of Dadeldhura, who was seriously injured in the accident, died on the way to the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Bahadur Chand, 48, Dhan Bahadur Chand, 38, Prem Bahadur Chand, 65, Tarasingh Thapa, 65, and Khemsingh Karki, 58, of Dasharathchanda-6. The bodies of five people who died on the spot have been kept at District Hospital Baitadi and the driver who died on the way have been kept at Seti Provincial Hospital.
Harka Bahadur Chand, 48, of Dasharathchanda-6 is seriously injured in the accident. He has been referred to Dhangadhi due to lack of treatment in the district. The jeep that fell 700 meters from the road could not be opened due to the accident. It is estimated that the speeding jeep may have crashed due to uncontrollable movement.
