The family of the rape and murder victim of Baitadi district are seeking justice even after more than a month has passed since incident occurred.
The victim's family members are hopeful that justice will be served after they learnt that the case will be heard at the Baitadi District Court tomorrow, Tuesday, March 9.
A bench of Justice Tilak Bahadur Karki is expected to decide on the case involving the heinous crime of rape and murder.
Sudurpaschim Province Police on February 17, had made public 17-year-old Dinesh Bhatta, who confessed to the rape and murder of 17-year-old Bhagarathi Bhatta of Baitadi district. She was found dead in Lawalek forest, on February 4.
The postmortem report showed that she was raped before she was murdered. The accused and the victim were both students at the local Sanatan Dharma Secondary School and neighbours. Police revealed that Dinesh committed the crime out vengeance since their families had a strained relationship.
The police have already completed the investigation into the rape-murder case, according to Spokesperson for Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mukesh Kumar Singh. He said the suspect is in judicial custody awaiting trial on the rape and murder charges. The case has been registered at Baitadi District Court.
Previously, during the course of the investigation police had informed that the blood specimen of the accused teenager had been sent to a forensic laboratory in Kathmandu for DNA testing. However, SSP Singh on Sunday informed that they did not have to go to that length as there was enough evidence to prove his guilt in the case.
The victim's uncle Shivaraj Bhatta, after checking with his lawyer confirmed to the NepalNews that the case will be heard at the District Court on Tuesday.
